News - New Rs 10 Bimetallic Coins
New Coins of Rs.10/- (Bi-metallic) with the theme – “Connectivity and Information Technology “
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation new coins of Rs.10/- as per its Press release dated 26 Mar 2009.
(Bi-metallic) issued by Government of India on the following theme: -“Connectivity and Information Technology”
The outer ring metal composition will be Aluminium Bronze and centre metal composition will be Cupro Nickel
"New era" coins including a Rs 10 coin, designed by the National Institute of Design (NID), are set to enter the market soon.
According to a senior finance ministry official, the new coins are more user-friendly and aesthetic but no date has been finalised for their introduction.
The new coins would be made of ferratic stainless steel and nickel-bronze as a security measure against counterfeit coins.
Currently, coins in India are issued in denominations of 10, 20, 25 and 50 paisa (small coins) and Rs 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 (rupee coins). But coins can be issued up to the denomination of Rs 1,000 as per the Coinage Act, 1906.
The NID design team, after studying various automated vending machines and other coin-operated machines, has reportedly ensured the compatibility of the new coins with these machines. It would be disabled-friendly also.
The printing of notes in the denomination of Re 1 and Rs 2 has been discontinued as these denominations have been coinised.
However, such notes issued earlier are still in circulation. Though the printing of notes in denomination of Rs 5 had also been discontinued, it has been decided to reintroduce these notes in order to meet the demand for Rs 5 coins.
Coins are minted at five government mints -- Mumbai, Alipara, Saifabad, Chelapally and Noida. There are about 3,784 coin depots spread through the country.
According to a senior RBI official, "There will be alterations in currency also, but the changes envisioned this time are much more simple. The notes would retain their crisp feel and crackling sound."
The official adds, "The most important aspect is that the year of printing will be featured on all notes. Till now, it was embossed on coins only. The year will now be incorporated on the reverse of the note while printing."
The new currency notes are likely to be thicker, heavier and will have dual-coloured optical fibre. The Ashoka Pillar emblem will be more prominent and there will will be more security-related features.
The new notes will be introduced in a phased manner and accordingly all banks have already been asked to make the necessary preparations to handle the changes.

Press Release: 2008-2009/1593
India GET ready for the new R-10 and R-5 parts in the country to our brothers in Europe, as it is a merger of bimetallic alloys with gold and silver-Finish. The 50 later - sending 1 and 2 euro coins would be Rs with a single metal, while Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins would have an outer ring of a second metal, which is a reflection Gold, like the Council of Europe.
The prototypes of these five denominationswill are rolled into the room at any time, now Mumbai. The Ministry of Finance has the payment of the R-9-lach afstand for the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. Business Line caught up with a man, a by hand, the identity of the rocket BrahMos, on the one hand and institutes such as IIM, Indore, on the other side.
The designer, Professor Anil Sinha, Senior Designer Faculty of Communication and Design NID, admits that his team has overcome all the efforts made so far, since these parts is expected that the country used to 2015-20 .
The team NID product designers, M. Sahil Karkhanis, three students, staff and as a scientist of scientific work Dr. Subir. “From day one, when a managing director of Hyderabad has been very well to the call to brief NID us, it was an assignment to competitiveness. Perhaps a touch of complexity has come in the form of our customer profile, there were three people - Ministry of Finance (policy and approvals); Reserve Bank of India (treasurers) and the Government mints (manufacturer). The original proposal, the project was 10 to 25 or more Later confessions later, but soon enough, it was decided that the documents were a little more Without being human, “said Professor Sinha
The brief they needed to take into account four factors - the human element (ergonomics), production for the needs mints, metallurgy, graphics, and an entirely new look. At a presentation on August 19 on the coin Mumbai, eight themes were briefly listed. They have been unity in diversity, grooves, information technology, science and aerospace, defense and aerospace, Mudra, Headgears and the tactile element. The period from July to October, there were still 10 sets of themes developed in the nest for the round shape, decided largely at the request of a vending machine.
“The main areas that we need to work on the shape, size and weight of the coins.” There was a perception that the Re1-R and 2 euro coins were too similar, and for the comfort of the R-5 piece was easy to falsify, often by gluing two pieces of 50 later. He also spoke about the transmissibility of R 5 coins were often seen beaded portfolio, product designers, M. Karkhanis said.
The final presentation, on Dec. 12, the coin Mumbai saw some users of bulk items such as MTNL, BEST, Central and Western railways, road transport and Maharashtra Greater Mumbai Milk Scheme approval of the new series of coins. Themes for the final against the head, unity in diversity, grooves, and the factor of Mudra tactile, if all subjects of the short term are the property of the buyer, “said Professor Sinha
Well, because coins are ready for production, it is with the exception of the speed with which the Government of India can be of currencies from the exit of the first two sets of coins from the coin Mumbai function as Minister of Finance, a directive. Now, it is a significant difference between the rear-1 and R-2 euro coins. The R-5 play easier - he now weighs 6 grams instead of the former 9 gm. The coin is 10 grams of Rs 8. While all the coins have been allocated to the square, both thematic guidelines with graphics and writing purposes, the final word is that the blind must be able to identify the different denominations. In truth, “factor of well-being” is on a different meaning in the days to come, as far as money in the wallet.
